JONAH/CALEB (Brief History/Time-line)
September 2001 – Randall was called by God to go to Italy
June 2002 – Randall traveled to Italy for a survey trip with his British friend, Bruce Smith; came back doing the Jonah thing by saying that there was NO WAY he was moving his family to Italy, and he listed 9 reasons in the back of his Bible why he would not. We instead began investigating opportunities for church planting/growth in the northeast U.S.
March 2003 – Randall finished at SIBI and we moved to Delaware, where we were invited to work on a “church plant”. We unknowingly walked into what was more of a “church split,” so this endeavor (doomed before we arrived) blew up in our faces within a year. We were unemployed for 6 months, homeless for 3 months.
June 2004-July 2006 – we settled once again in NW Arkansas, floundering/recovering from the “bomb” in Delaware
April 2006 – once again set our focus on God’s call to move to Italy, and within days of this we met Titus & Angie Robison, and Randall went to work for Rid-a-Pest.
March 2007 – we went on a survey trip to Milan to narrow down where God wanted us to settle
February 1, 2008 – Randall quit work for Rid-a-Pest to spend full time raising support for our departure in May. We reached 18% quickly, but soon stalled out.
April 2008 – had our living estate sale and sold almost everything we owned, moved out of our house to stay with Ann & Larry till we raised the remaining 82%.
August 2008 – we were still stalled out at 18% and still living with Ann & Larry, and very confused about what the hold-up was with support-raising; we moved into a furnished 2-bedroom apartment, then later into a 3-bedroom duplex, borrowing furniture and household supplies from friends.
April 2009 – still stalled out at 18%, sick of living in limbo, wondering how much longer God is going to keep us living like this. I started wondering what exactly is 100%? How do we really know what amount is 100%? How many different things need to be in our budget to call it 100%?
